Pas Classique Hongrois from Raymonda

Choreography after Marius Petipa, staged by Webster Dean
Rehearsal assistant – Liuba Paterson
Music by Alexander Glazunov

Raymonda is a ballet in three acts, choreographed by Marius Petipa, renowned maitre de ballet to the St. Petersburg Theater, to music by Alexander Glazunov. The ballet was first presented by the Imperial Ballet at the Imperial Mariinsky Theater in 1898 in Saint Petersburg Russia. Among the ballet’s most celebrated passages is the Pas Classique Hongrois from the third act which is often performed independently and is the basis of tonight’s version. The original cast featured ballerina Olga Preobrajenska with whom, incidentally, Margo Dean studied in Paris in the late 1950’s.

Ebb and Flow

Choreography by Elise Lavallee

In loving memory of my sister Shannon Lee Ferrell and dear friend Roxanne Noel Mather

We are all interconnected and our relationships with one another ebb and flow, like the waves of the sea. They swell with intimacy, passion, and energy and then naturally wane through periodic episodes of separateness, quietness and space. Attachment and connection, followed by detachment and disconnection. Up and down, back and forth, give and take, push and pull. Such is the rhythm of life -- a necessary process to prevent stagnation and promote our evolution of our consciousness. —-Joyce Marter

String of Pearls

Choreography by Margo Dean
Choreography for Bugle Call Rag - Elise Lavallee
Music – Glenn Miller
Re-staged and rehearsed by Webster Dean
Rehearsal assistant - Elise Lavallee

During World War II, Margo Dean danced with a group of dancers on a war bond tour to several Texas army camps. Among the camps visited were Camp Barkley in Mineral Wells and Camp Walters in Abilene. One of the songs danced to was String of Pearls, played by the Glen Miller Orchestra. The ballet presented tonight was inspired by the “String of Pearls” music of that era.

In August of 1944, the United States Treasury Department awarded Margo Dean a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her service with the following: “In appreciation of services rendered in behalf of the War Finance Program, this citation is awarded to Margaret Ann Webster.”
