| Ballet Concerto, a civic non-profit organization
under the artistic direction of director/founder Margo Dean, was incorporated
in 1969 for the specific purpose of presenting the art of ballet and other
forms of dance to audiences of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.
Ballet Concerto is dedicated to continuing this tradition with a focus
on providing lecture/demonstrations and other dance programs to school-aged
children.
In an attempt to extend even further its outreach and to reach families who might not otherwise experience the beauty and excitement of a live performance, Ballet Concerto has presented annually since 1983 the SUMMER DANCE CONCERT, which has been a free outdoor dance concert presented in Fort Worth's cultural district. Ballet Concerto provides an outlet for talented young dancers and offers employment to local professionals as well as guest artists. Choreographers of national and international repute as well as emerging choreographers are invited to choreograph. |
In their remarks, Arts Council members commended Ballet Concerto both for their outreach through the Neighborhood Arts Program and their consistent programming to general audiences through the annual SUMMER DANCE CONCERT. Ballet Concerto recently completed a series of 11 lecture-demonstrations in schools, presenting the history of classical ballet and Spanish dance in a light and entertaining manner to students across Fort Worth. "It was exhilarating," commented Artistic Director Margo Dean. "These students are very receptive. Many of them were so excited that they asked us to send a ballet teacher to their school." In 1969, Ballet Concerto was the first cultural organization approved by the Fort Worth Independent School District to perform in public schools. Since then, the company has performed in hundreds of schools and inspired countless students. The company's annual SUMMER DANCE CONCERT, presented at the Trinity Park Pavilion, was recognized in 2007 by Fort Worth Weekly as "Best Outdoor Summer Cultural Event". This evening of ballet and Spanish dance uses nationally and internationally renowned choreographers, and has been presented free of charge since 1983. ![]() |
