The aim of this program is to introduce ballet to young students who otherwise would have little or no opportunity to experience the joy of dance through ballet lessons. The lessons give them an appreciation of the physical demands of ballet and introduces them to its aesthetic value as a valid and acceptable form of personal, social and artistic expression.
F.I.N.D.'s goal is to implement classical ballet lessons as a permanent part of the Fort Worth Independent School District's curriculum and is sponsored by private funding, Ballet Concerto, and Imagination Celebration. Classes will be offered on a volunteer basis to 4th and 5th graders who will take them for one hour once a week. Classes will be limited to 22 students with a minimum of 20. These ballet classes will be an alternative to the physical education classes in five selected elementary schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District and will be taught during the school hours.
The ballet classes are taught by professional dancers who are company members of Ballet Concerto. F.I.N.D. aims to train young students and discover those who might excel in this dance expression. Further more, those who have the desire to continue their ballet studies may be eligible to become an apprentice with Ballet Concerto, with the goal of eventually becoming a full member of the company.
